Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

Why make your own sweetened condensed milk at home when you can just buy it at the store? It is fast, cheap, and delicious. Money savings you say? Yep. Cost to make this recipe using Thrive products: $2.21. Cost to purchase equal amount of sweetened condensed milk at the store: $5.38. That's a savings of $3.17. And you'll taste the difference, trust me. Plus you're going to want to have some handy for tomorrow's recipe: a coffee drink that will change your life.

1c Thrive Instant OR Powdered Milk (I had great results with both)
2/3c Thrive White Sugar*
3T Butter (You could use Thrive Butter Powder, margarine, or a butter substitute)
1/3c Boiling Water

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 2-3 minutes, scraping sides down occasionally. The mixture is ready when the sugar has dissolved. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Makes about 2 cups.

To turn your homemade sweetened condensed milk into caramel sauce, pour it into a glass dish and cover the dish with tin foil. Set the glass dish in a larger dish about half full with hot water. Bake in the oven at 425 for an hour. Be sure to do this with a batch that has not already been refrigerated.

*I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you did this with brown sugar. It wouldn't be white, of course, but the brown sugar might give it a great flavor. I'm curious. Let me know if you try it.
